Background

Origins:

Julius' origins have been traced to the times of the Roman Empire. He lived his foalhood running through the slopes in the Italian Alps- until he was sighted and captured by a local Roman domine. Being a symbol of status, Julius spent some years basking in the luxurious lifestyle of the Roman Villa, but it didn't take long for him to be sold in the market when his health rapidly declined as he matured. He was taken by a peregrine, and travelled down south until they reached the magnificence -although slowly crumbling apart- of Rome.

After drifting through the streets of the capital in the lookout for someone willing to spend a great sum of sesterii on him, the now young stallion saw himself thrown into the hands of a Slave Dealer. Julius, still unnamed at the time, was thrown in the pits of the great Colosseum in a desperate try to entertain the mobs, and entertain he did. Exploiting all his might and strength, the stallion battled gladiator slaves and beasts the same, until his body gave in after a few weeks of training, sparring and bloodshed. He was only spared death thanks to the intervention of a man he'd come to know as Marcus- an Hispanian Equite who was willing to buy the stallion for himself, having seen signs of worth on the horned horse.

Marcus was the one who bestowed the name Julius on him- alluding to the cheerful, curious nature the stallion had, as if he clinged on in his earliest foalhood memories, as well as to his proud stance and behaviour, worthy of an emperor. The golden stallion travelled with him and his own horse Dromos through sea and the golden fields of southern Hispania, back to Marcus' home in Malaca. Julius' next years were spent rolling and galloping in the wheat fields, just watching time pass by while grazing alongside the proud Hispanian horses Marcus owned or training in the art of war with his owner. Julius felt blessed with Marcus at his side, but what he did not know is that the man not only saved him, but turned him eternal too.

The passing of the years bore no effect on the stallion. One very specific night by year 318 AD, Julius was suddenly awoken by the suffocating mix of smoke and air and the strong light of fire. Most of the horses in the stable didn't even realize what was happening- and he assumed all of them dead. The next thing he felt was the cold night air slapping his face, Marcus on his back and his legs beating the ground as fast as he could, Dromos hot on his heels. After what felt a whole day of galloping into the mountains, the stallions were given a short time to rest, and only then did Julius realize Marcus had not only rescued them and his most precious belongings- he was carrying a young human girl as well.

Next days were a blur for the stallion. A few days earlier, he had been prancing in the fields, filling his lungs with cold winter air, that air with a tinge of salt he loved so much. Right now, he was waiting for Marcus to disembark from an old boat he didn't like the looks of after travelling for days to the north. The hispanian had spoke words to him before going in, words filled with sadness and even despair. The human child had been right by his side, just as scared and confused as he was. A young man held his reins in place while Marcus took care of his business. He would soon disembark and go back to him.

But he never did. Dromos went away with him. The child went away with him. But they left him behind.

His state of complete mental turmoil only worsened when the young man took him away in a rather risky way, as if he tried to avoid being seen leading the giant horned stallion. Once the stone houses dissappeared and only green and forest was in sight, the man slowly tied off the reins from his golden and red bridle. He spoke to him as well, with a soft voice that he assumed meant no harm at all. For minutes that to him seemed hours, Julius stood in place, and was only prodded into running when the young monk unwillingly batted his rump. The stallion ran, getting lost into the darkness of the forests, the only remnant of his past as a proud roman horse tied on his face. He didn't understand why, but he didn't care. He would wait for them to come back. He would wait for him to come back, for the day of his arrival.

And when it came, centuries had worn out both the hispanian and the horned stallion- but the loyalty to one another would always be there.

Personality/temperament:

"I will embrace them all. I will teach them all, and I will protect them all."

Julius is a noble, quiet stallion with a glint of mischief in his eyes. As imposing he might come off, with a coat covered in scars and battered by a very long life, he's a rather fatherly figure for most surrounding him. He is gentle and careful- and will never hold a grudge against you, no matter the offense (or you will have to fuck up real bad for Juli to harm you). Despite his health issues, which most of them he was treated for as soon as he was properly stabled and registered, he keeps a colt spirit trapped in his heart, and will not hesitate to play with the youngsters, other animals or even the staff. Clever and sly as a fox, there are little ways to trick this extremely experienced stallion.

Even though he's mannered towards everyone, if Julius likes you, he will make sure to show you he does. He will lavish you in plenty of nips, nickers and head rubs. He will groom you, and probably even bring you well-meaning (although sometimes gruesome) gifts.

Juli's temper has never raised high unless seriously provoked, as he's a very pacific individual. He's usually allowed to roam free between the facilities, and he likes to visit other paddocks and fences. This has never caused any problem- it seems Julius is respected by everyone, as he respects each single one of them.

Trivia:

» He is extremely loyal to Marcus, as well as to his step-daughter Em.
» Through what it seems like reverse zoonosis*, Julius was transmitted the telomerase-active DNA from Marcus himself, inducing a state of permanent biological senescence.
» Obsessed with grooming people/animals he likes. Grooms stallions, grooms mares. Grooms the cats. Grooms the staff.
» Even though most of his problems have been treated and cured, gets tired really quick when under hard exercising.
» When you manage to scare this old man, we'll give you an award. He's Julius the Un-spookable.
» Watches over everyone- like a communal lead stallion of sorts.
» He will never say no to a good old vegetal sandwich. With extra mayo, just for kicks.
» The stallion is covered in scars, some more ancient than others.
» One of his frontal horns once broke off, since it was heavily chipped due to what we assume was a fight. It was casted in gold and reattached.

*Reverse zoonosis or zooanthroponosis is, in simple words, when a human being contagiates a virus to an animal. So far, this has happened in real life with dogs, cats, cattle, horses and various zoo animals- including Juli up there. How does this play in contagiating 'inmortality'? Telomerase, the little enzyme that makes humans non-aging, is housed inside the DNA. This is what a virus suckles up when contagiating a disease. When this virus takes DNA from a non-aging human, it brings the DNA with it, and if the non-aging human contagiates this telomerase-packed virus to someone else, there's a chance it will pass on to that someone, passing the telomerase on to their DNA and making it non-aging as well after going through a very harsh process of DNA rearrange. Through Reverse Zoonosis, the new virus could contagiate to animals as well- and that's how Juli and Marcus got their immortality working.
